Basic Wheel Throwing Project

Describe:
To construct this piece I used the throwing wheel. I began by centering the clay on the wheel. I coned the clay up and down. Then I created a hole with my thumbs and slowly thinned the walls. I continued this process until my thumbs were the correct width and even all around. I then set my bowl out to dry until it was leather hard. I then trimmed it on the wheel using a ribbon tool to create a foot.

Analyze:
The principle of design my piece represents is balance. My bowl is very even throughout and a clean piece. I believe the wheel makes a piece look very polished and clean. All of the sides are balanced and the food is a Perfect circle that supports the bowl.

Interpret:
Since this was a basic wheel throwing project I did not have any inspiration or symbolism in this piece. However with the help of mrs kolesa and YouTube I had an idea that I wanted to make a bowl. The cylinder I created on the wheel then formed into a really nice bowl.

Judge:
Because this was only my 2nd time on the wheel I was pleasantly surprised that I actually came out with something. I really would like to grow on the wheel and create a project that I do solo from start to finish. I Believe I could a better job making the walls thin and even. I am really happy with this piece and excited to eat cereal out of it.
